25 THINGS TO SEE AND DO IN MUNICH

What is the first thing that comes to mind if you hear about Munich? Do youOktoberfest? You are ours! Yes, I visited Munich a few years ago on the occasion of the beer festival and I have to say it was a great experience. But Munich is not only that, in fact it is one of the most interesting cities in all of Germany and with a few proposals that both the big and the little ones will like. In this post we will recommend you 25 things to see and do in Munich.

1. The Main Square of Munich (Marienplatz) It is an architectural wonder. Here is the gothic building of the New Town Hall (Neues Rathaus) where, every day at 11, at 12 and at 17, the so-called “Cooper dance” takes place. It is a show in which the figurines of a chime (glockenspiel) dance to the sound of music. In the same square you can also see the Old Town Hall (Altes Rathaus), the Fischbrunnen font and the column of Santa Maria (Mariensäule).

2. Another place to visit in Munich is the Odeonsplatz. It is elegant and majestic, and has 3 important monuments: the Feldherrnhalle, dedicated to the Bavarian army and the honor of its soldiers, the Teatinos Church (Theatinerkirche), a curious yellow and baroque style, and the parksHofgarten and Finanzgarten.

3. Although undoubtedly the most important park in Munich is the Englischer Garten, one of the largest urban parks in the world. You can walk or cycle on its almost 80 km of roads, get beautiful views of the city from theMonopteros, or surfing ... Surfing? But there is no sea! Correct, but there is a river, the Eisbach, which has an area of ​​“waves” (Eisbachwelle). It is certainly one of the most curious things to see and do in Munich.

4. Approach the St. Peter's Church (Peterskirche), colloquially known as the "Alter Peter" (Old Peter) and considered the oldest church in the city, and climbs to its tower (€ 3). 10. One of the most significant monuments of the city is the Victory Gate (Siegestor), a triumphal arch that was built to commemorate the victory of the Bavarian army over Napoleon's troops. You can see reliefs on its walls that show scenes from this episode, and on top it is crowned by a statue of a marble quadriga. It was partially destroyed in the IIGM and since then it became a symbol of peace. By the way, if you are in this area, approach the strange sculpture of “Walking Man ” A little further north.

12. If you prefer art exhibitions, there are two museums that may interest you: Antigua Pinacoteca (Alte Pinakothek) and the New Pinacoteca (Neue Pinakothek), facing each other. In particular, the latter seems essential, since there are works by Cezanne, Manet, Van Gogh, Monet or Gaugain. 13. Two are the main pedestrian streets in the historic center of Munich:Kaufingerstraße YNeuhauser Straße. Throughout them shops, restaurants and lots of atmosphere are located, especially in special times such as Christmas. As always, walking is how cities are best known, although if you want to ride by public transport and take a walk, the tram 19 It may be a good option.

15. On the other side of the Isar River, on Prinzregentestraße, stands the statue of theAngel of Peace (Friedensengel), 38 meters high and on a Corinthian column born in a beautiful temple. It was started in 1896 to celebrate 25 years of peace after the Franco-Prussian War.

16. Another more dynamic and perfect museum for the whole family is the Deutsches Museum, where you can enjoy one of the largest scientific and technological collections in the world. The space is huge, but the main parts are the Wright brothers' first motor plane and the first Benz car. Admission is € 12.

17. On the other hand, if the engine roll is cooler, Germany and Munich are an important center of the world's automobile development. Here is theBMW Museum, with the history of the brand and many cars and motorcycles of all time, including prototypes. The ticket is worth € 10. 19. There near is the Old Royal Palace (Residenz), which was the home of Bavarian royalty, neither more nor less than for 6 centuries! 20. Approach the Olympiapark, the Olympic Park in the city, built for the 1972 Olympics.
