And from there the whole northern part of the island, where we find the best beaches so far, and places that go directly to the top10 of this trip, such as Cefalù. Days 11 and 12Taormina - Milazzo

We leave our beloved B&B of Taormina and we descend on the same road where we climb, leaving the impressive Bella Island to our right, saying goodbye with the idea of returning one day and enjoying its beach. As we are used to, we take the coast road with the illusion of reaching the easternmost tip of Sicily: Faro Tower.

But before we go through Messina without stopping The truth is that the city does not look like it deserves a lot of time, although the silly thing was almost an hour between the traffic. Still on the east coast road we already see the coast of the Italian peninsula on the other side of the Strait of Messina, which is getting closer and closer until it seems almost the continuation of our path. But why is a bridge not built? Ah already ... the ferry business ...

Faro Tower It is a small fishing town that surprised us. I don't know if it was Sunday, but it looked very good. There we took the opportunity to eat a little fish and tried a new Sicilian specialty: involtini spada, some swordfish rolls stuffed with fried breadcrumbs with lemon, garlic and parsley. Very rich!

Here began the discovery of the third edge of the triangle that is Sicily: the stage along the north coast, with much less traffic than the rest. The roads began to narrow and the landscapes became cool. Thus we arrive atMilazzo, which is the main door to know the Aeolian Islands. Although we prefer to leave them for another trip and stay enjoying this town and its beach for a couple of days. The truth is that we decided almost immediately, but after seeing that the tour to the Egadas left us wanting more time on the islands ... almost better to return an entire week and dedicate it to this volcanic archipelago that has so many beautiful things.

The second day in Milazzo we went out with the car to explore the surroundings, it has a castle on top, although the opening hours are somewhat reduced. We also reach the tip of this ledge, where trails leave to the lighthouse and even calitas in the Capo di Milazzo. The views are cool, but very cool.

We already wanted to be calm in a place, without having to write down things to do on a map. We took advantage of the fact that our apartment directly overlooked the beach to lie in the sun and give us some refreshing baths (perhaps too refreshing, that in October the water here starts to cool) and enjoy some movie sunsets.

And although the trip is nearing its end, there are still little things ahead!

Days 13 and 14Milazzo - Cefalù

In the section that we follow of coast we see a few bunkers, legacy of World War II. And it is that in this conflict, Milazzo suffered a massive bombing, because it is an important military center. Actually, it is a constant that we have seen throughout the trip, but it is in this area where several are concentrated, and it is not the least curious, and thus forces you to know a little the history of the place.

A huge church rises high and high, especially striking. Is he Shrine of the Madonna di Tindari, where Madonna Nera is venerated, the figure of a black Byzantine virgin. The road ascends in zigzag and steep ramps, until crowning next to this sanctuary. We do not stop, we really had no idea what it was, now looking at some info we see that it may be worth it :-p. Especially to take advantage and visit the ruins of the ancient city of Tindarys, of Greek origin and later Roman.

From here to the end of the route, in Cefalù, the road follows the coastline and runs along beautiful cliffs, sometimes a tad, but it is probably one of thepanoramic roads prettiest of Sicily.

We stopped to eat in the town ofCapo d'Orlando, where we put a pizza and a pasta with fish that mother of beautiful love! and finally we finish the route in Cefalu, one of the surprises of the trip!

Day 15Cefalu - Palermo

Well yes, Cefalu was very worth it! This beautiful town at the foot of the millenary Rocca is a good option to end a trip through Sicily. In addition to showing off a charming old town, the beaches are an ideal complement to the holidays. The water is clear and, although we stay with the pebbled beaches of Milazzo, this is a very good place to twist in the sun and put on your snorkeling glasses. Here we tell you the best thing to do in Cefalù.

In our plans I was going through Monreale and visit his acquaintance Cathedral, but the plane does not wait and we do not want to take too much risk, besides it is always good to leave something to return hehe ... So this is the end of the trip. We return to Palermo, we travel the highway to the airport, passing again next to the monument remembering Judges Falcone and Borsellino, and we leave this land that has given us so much and, probably, will welcome us again in the future.

Travel to Sicily, it's a beautiful island 🙂
