Copenhagen in two days

Copenhagen Botanical Garden

With almost 10 hectares, the Copenhagen Botanical Garden is part of the gardens of the Natural History Museum of Denmark as well as having the largest collection of plants in Denmark. Copenhagen Botanical Garden

Among the buildings that you can find, the set of glass houses of the 19th century stands out, which act as greenhouses, maintaining a large number of species inside, among which you can see palm trees, cacti and orchids.

Visit Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen in two days

After a walk around the Christiansborg Palace, we continue with Copenhagen in two days heading to one of the things we do in Copenhagen that we most wanted, which is none other than visiting the Royal Danish Library, known as the Black Diamond and that it is a short distance from the palace, so we arrived before 11 in the morning, a perfect hour, in which the sky is still blue and the sun shines, giving us a temperature that we can not deny, is grateful and much , especially in a city like Copenhagen, where the cold is usually much more common.

Royal Library of Denmark. Black diamond

Although the Royal Library of Denmark exists since the mid-17th century and hosts so many copies that it consists of several buildings, it was not until 1999, relatively recently, when this place began to be made really known, coinciding with the construction of the Black Diamond, which is today its most famous building, located next to the Christianshavn canal and designed by architects Schmidt, Hammer & Lassen.

Royal Library of Denmark

This building, with a diamond-like appearance, consists of two bodies designed in black marble and glass, which allow, in addition to seeing the sea from its interior, reflecting the water on its walls, something that makes its exterior shine like stone precious. (which facilitates sea views from its many balconies).
Although its design and exterior is the most striking, in recent times its interior has also become very famous, especially for the many photographs that can be seen on Instagram in which its white and wavy walls stand out, after which there are 6 reading rooms, which can only be accessed, in addition to being the right thing, if they will be used.

Schedule:
8h-21h (Monday to Saturday in winter)
8h-19h (Monday to Saturday in summer)
Free entrance. We must bear in mind that we are in a library, no matter how photogenic, so please be silent and behave with respect and education.

It's almost 12 in the morning when we continue with the Copenhagen in two days, after knowing one of the most photogenic places in the city, taking advantage to enjoy for almost 45 minutes of Christianhavn, another of the most famous places in Copenhagen, where there is also a channel very similar to Nyhavn, which we visited the first day, after of settling in and going from the airport to the center of Copenhagen.

Christianhavn

Christianhavn

Considered by many as one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Copenhagen, Christianhavn is a residential area where many artists and bohemians currently live, who have found in this place, the perfect corner in which to give free rein to their art.
In addition, we cannot forget that it is here that we can also find Christiania, an area of more or less 34 hectares that is currently partially self-governed by some 1000 residents, who have turned it into an independent community.

Christianhavn

Christianhavn

After walking around the neighborhood, in which it seems that we have gone back a few years ago and enjoyed absolute tranquility, we approached the Church of San Salvador, another of the icons of this neighborhood of Copenhagen, known for its peculiar shape and where logically, having a day as clear as today, we cannot miss climbing up to the highest part.

San Salvador Church

Known for hosting one of the most incredible viewpoints of the city, in addition to its curious architecture, the Church of San Salvador is one of the places you can not miss on your trip to Copenhagen, as we are sure, it will become one of the unforgettable moments that you live in this beautiful city.

San Salvador Church

Located in Sankt Annæ Gade, 29 you will find the church with a baroque style tower, where the viewpoint is located and through which you must ascend 400 steps to reach the highest area, from where the views of Copenhagen will make you forget the tiredness, especially that of the last flight of stairs, about 150, that pass through the outside of the tower and through which you can enjoy the incredible views, provided the vertigo allows it.

Views from the Church of San Salvador

Stairs of the Church of San Salvador

Once you are at the top, we advise you to enjoy the views, but always with respect, since the last part is so narrow that only one person fits and the descent is done by the same staircase, so if you are a long time , you will make a lot of queue and delay access a lot.
If you have vertigo or claustrophobia, as we commented, the last section can be difficult, so if you want to climb, it may be better to choose to do it when there are not many people, to do it with more tranquility.

Views from the Church of San Salvador

Schedule:
9: 30h-19h (Monday to Saturday between May and September)
10: 30h-19h (Sundays)
If the weather is not good, the tower closes for safety)
Price: The price is 50DKK per person.

It's a little after 1:30 pm when we finish the visit to the Church of San Salvador, which we loved, at which time we continue with the Copenhagen in two days, heading to another of the places that you can not miss and that is for us, one of the must-see in Copenhagen: Christiania, the independent community of Copenhagen, which is a few meters from the church and which is one of the essentials of Any getaway to Copenhagen.

Christiania

This is probably one of the most visited places in Copenhagen and this free city, as they define themselves, is at least one of the most striking places in the city and also one of the most curious.
In the Christianshavn neighborhood you will find this community of 1000 neighbors, who settled here in 1971 and since then, are considered independent, not only of Denmark, but also of the EU, as indicated by some of the cartels that can be seen The exit of the place.

Christiania

Keep in mind that this independent state, today has its own infrastructure and shops, operating outside the rest of the community of Copenhagen, as well as being a place where it is legal the sale and consumption of marijuana and other drugs, something that on the other hand, is not approved by the Danish authorities and causes a conflict between the two.

Visit Christiania

You should know that despite what has been said before, Christiania is not much less a dangerous place, so you can visit it perfectly for free or do an organized tour, which you can hire right there and with which you can know much more about the place of hands of one of its inhabitants.
That said, we have read that in Pusher Street you usually try to sell drugs to visitors, so it is convenient to take it into account to know how to act or be prepared for the question.
Something to keep in mind is that in Christiania there are certain rules, which are notified in numerous cartels in different areas and must be met, especially with the issue of photo prohibition, something that we recommend being very respectful.

Christiania

Tips for visiting Christiania

- As we mentioned earlier, no photographs are not welcome and are prohibited. Respect their decision and only, if you want to take a souvenir, make them at the entrance, which is where they can be made.
- Visit with respect. If you think that what you are going to see does not fit with you or after a walk you are not in your environment, it is best that you leave the place before making judgments out loud.
- Keep in mind that in Christiania you cannot pay by credit card or there are any ATMs, so if you want to eat, drink or buy, you must carry cash.
- There are several restaurants and cafes, so if you do this visit at noon or in the evening, it can be interesting to stop at one of its premises.
- We ate at Morgenstedet, one of the most recommended vegetarian restaurants in Copenhagen, where we ordered a soup, hummus and two salads for 175DKK that were impressive.
As in the rest of the premises you can only pay in cash and it is especially remarkable, in addition to the taste of the food, the atmosphere that is created in the open kitchen, so although its terrace is very nice, we recommend you eat whenever you You can inside.

Eating in Morgenstedet

- Another of the things that you can do in Christiania, in this Copenhagen in two days, is to take advantage of buying souvenirs, since here because there are no taxes, it will be cheaper than in other places in the city.
- Depending on the time you come, ask about the activities that are done, since on many occasions you can enjoy outdoor concerts.
- After this little introduction, we can only recommend you to visit Christiania and above all, enjoy it with respect and with an open mind to be able to live it to the fullest, try to understand it and let yourself be carried away by one of the most colorful places in the city, without forgetting that It is the second most visited place in Denmark. For something it will be, right?

It is after 3 in the afternoon when we have just eaten and we take the opportunity to take a last walk through Christiania, an essential place in Copenhagen, which we take in the heart to return when we return to Copenhagen with more time, something we are sure we will do and We hope to be soon.

From here we return on our steps, making an intermediate stop for a coffee, for 80 crowns in a cafeteria of the neighborhood, going back into the streets of the charming neighborhood of and return to the Christianhavn neighborhood, from where we approach, when it is 16 : 30 to Bridge Street, a gastronomic space, well known in the city, which due to the time it is and after having eaten, is pending to try when we return.

The Bridge Street Kitchen, located right in the Greenland Commerce Square, very close to Nyhavn, is a street food market, which highlights, in addition to its incredible location and views, the interest they have had in maintaining the history of the area, taking care of the details, such as maintaining the colors of the stalls, reminiscent of the colors of the Greenlandic houses.

Bridge street

After a tour of the area, we return again to Nyhavn, just 200 meters away, which is one of the areas we liked most in Copenhagen and seeing that it is 5:30 in the afternoon and that the sky has cleared quite, we decided to continue with this Copenhagen in two days, doing an activity that we do not have initially scheduled and that is the boat tour on the canals of Copenhagen.

Tour of the canals of Copenhagen

Although as we mentioned earlier this activity is not something that we would have initially valued, after seeing that the Copenhagen in two days He had left us a few hours off the afternoon of our second full day, we chose to do it and we have to confess, which is one of the best experiences we have had in the city, since it has allowed us to enjoy and get to know Copenhagen from another perspective, in addition to know many details and stories through the explanations made by the guide throughout the entire journey.

It's 6:30 in the afternoon when the Copenhagen tourist boat ends and we decided that after the day of the Copenhagen in two days, today we will shorten the day a little after almost 20 kilometers walking, approaching the Tight restaurant for dinner, located in the center of Copenhagen, where we ordered some ribs, a risotto, beer, water and a dessert for 420DKK, which we have To confess, as a whole, does not just exceed the expectations we had placed in the restaurant, since it is considered one of the most recommended in the city.

Tight restaurant

After dinner and when it is almost 9 pm, we end the Copenhagen in two days, walking back to the Nora Hotel, something that allows us to enjoy the city at night, something that we love, despite the fatigue of the day and gives us unforgettable moments, which we are sure, we will not forget.
